Michael Braunstein, ASA*, MAAA, is Assistant Director of the Actuarial Science Program. Prior to joining the program, he was with Aetna with overall responsibilities for Actuarial Talent Management. His experience includes 15 years working for The Hartford Life Insurance Company doing traditional life/health pricing and financial/actuarial work, 12 years as President/Owner of an actuarial recruiting company, and 5 years in actuarial publishing as President/CEO of ACTEX Publications and as Director of North American Operations for BPP Professional Education. A 1973 cum laude graduate of the University of Connecticut, Michael also provides extensive volunteer work for the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries, has chaired several committees, and has served as President of the Actuaries' Club of Hartford/Springfield.

James Bridgeman, MA, FSA**, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and is the Head of the graduate programs in Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics. He holds an M.A. in mathematics from Yale. Professor Bridgeman came to UConn from the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Actuary at Aetna International. His research interests include asset-liability modeling and actuarial applications of stochastic modeling.

Bruce Campbell, FSA**, MAAA, is an Adjunct Professor in Actuarial Science. He holds a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a Master's degree in actuarial science from the University of Connecticut. He served for 7 years in a variety of leadership positions in the U.S. Coast Guard. He has worked as an actuary at Aetna and ING focusing on pricing and actuarial issues for both health care and retirement benefits. He is currently a Senior Actuary for Aetna's Individual Healthcare market.

John Dinius, FSA**, MAAA, CLU, ChFC, is an Adjunct Professor in Actuarial Science. He has more than thirty years of experience in the life and health insurance industry, and is experienced in the design, pricing, valuation, and management of individual life insurance and annuity products. Prior to joining the actuarial faculty at the University of Connecticut, John was a Principal Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he provided consulting and audit services to life insurance companies. Before that, he was a Vice President and actuary at Aetna Inc., where he served in a variety of roles, including extensive involvement in product development and pricing, and also a wide range of regulatory matters.

James Geyer, FSA**, MAAA, is an Adjunct Professor in Actuarial Science. He served for many years as the Chief Actuary at Aetna Inc. and was responsible for all actuarial functions throughout the company, including (but not limited to) pricing, experience studies, and reserving. Since retirement from Aetna in 2007, Mr. Geyer has worked as an actuarial expert witness for a law firm.

Gregory Smith, FSA**, is an Adjunct Professor in Actuarial Science. His work experience includes roles in healthcare pricing, life reinsurance, financial reporting, life pricing, consulting and education. He has served on the Life Insurance Financial Reporting Council of the American Academy of Actuaries and as an instructor at the SOA/AAA Seminar on FASB Statements 141 and 142. He is currently working as a Vice President for Research and Publications at Conning and Company.

James Trimble, FSA**, MAAA, CERA, is Director of the Actuarial Science Program. He has worked for the Hartford Life Insurance Companies since 1978 after graduating from UConn with a BS in Mathematics, summa cum laude. At The Hartford, he assumed several senior positions, including Chief International Actuary, Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer, and he was the director of its actuarial student program.

Jeyaraj Vadiveloo, PhD, FSA**, MAAA, CFA is the Watson-Wyatt professor-in-residence in actuarial science who has taught at UConn for 20 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California Berkeley. Dr. Vadiveloo currently is the Head of the Watson-Wyatt Insurance and Financial Services practice in Hartford, Connecticut. Although he normally teaches only one course each semester, Dr. Vadiveloo is actively involved in several important administrative aspects of the Actuarial Science program such as curriculum development and Ph.D. student supervision. He is also currently the Director of the Janet and Mark L. Goldenson Actuarial Research Center.

Emiliano Valdez, Ph.D, FSA**, is a Professor of Actuarial Science. Apart from teaching actuarial courses, his main responsibilities include managing the Ph.D. program and helping raise the research profile of the program. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. His academic experience includes several years of teaching and conducting research in actuarial science in three different continents: North America, Australia and Asia. His previous academic posts include working for the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and for the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He has been awarded both the Edward A. Lew Award and the Halmstad Memorial Prize Award in recognition for his significant contributions to the actuarial literature. He also has several years of industry experience working as an actuary for a major life insurer in Hartford, Connecticut and held summer actuarial positions at Price Waterhouse.

Charles Vinsonhaler, Ph.D, ASA*, is Professor Emeritus, former Head of the Department of Mathematics, and former director of the actuarial program. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Washington. He has been honored as Connecticut Professor of the Year and as a UConn Teaching Fellow. Dr. Vinsonhaler was very instrumental in the creation and development of the Actuarial Science Program.
