According to Paul Erdös, a mathematician is a device that turns coffee into theorems. At the UConn math department, coffee is mainly turned into theorems in the following fields:
- Actuarial Science
- Algebra and Number Theory
- Analysis
- Applied Mathematics
- Geometric Analysis
- Mathematical Logic
- Numerical Analysis
- Partial Differential Equations
- Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes
- Topology and Geometry
As usual, a clear cut division of mathematics is impossible, and quite a few people belong to more than just one of the areas listed above.
